(nsfmg) Gift Guide for Giving

‘Tis the season to give back. Whether you’re making a donation in someone’s name or planning to give as part of your holiday gifting approach, we’ve assembled some organizations that we know are doing good, important work. From helping get diapers on babies’ bums to providing access to mental health care — this is our Mom Group-approved giving list for the 2021 holiday season.

Seleni Institute: If there’s an org that personifies (nsfmg)’s mission, it’s this one. The Institute treats, trains, supports, and advocates to improve the emotional health of individuals and their families during the family-building years. Donate here to help give mothers the mental heath support they need.

Paid Leave for the United States: We’ve been quite literally shouting from the rooftops about paid leave because this cause is not only incredibly important to families but it’s urgent. Donate today to this org that works in partnership with employees, employers, consumers, and investors and has won paid family leave for nearly 8 million people at companies like Walmart, Starbucks, CVS and more.

National Network of Abortion Funds: Remember that time Texas put a bounty on the heads of those seeking to provide or receive abortions? That really brought to light the immense barriers that exist to women making choices about their reproductive health and getting safe abortions. This network builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice. Donate here to help them continue this important work.

Afghan Literacy Foundation: While the news cycle may have moved on, the crisis in Afghanistan is ongoing and far from over. With the Taliban in leadership, the citizens of Afghanistan need support now more than ever. The ALF has pivoted to provide emergency relief for internally displaced Afghans by providing basic necessities to this population. Donate here to help provide clean water, food, blankets, and other necessities.

Last Prisoner Project: The LPP was founded on the belief that no one should remain incarcerated for cannabis offenses. We’ve spoken often about how War on Drugs has disproportionately targeted and affected the BIPOC community. The Last Prisoner Project is made up of attorneys, criminal justice reformers, advocates, and justice-impacted individuals dedicated to reforming our unjust and ineffective approach to cannabis law and policy. Donate here to help free the estimated 40,000 individuals imprisoned for cannabis and help change these policies.

National Diaper Bank Network: Did you know babies need 6-12 diapers a day? This Network helps empower and establish diaper banks all over the country while gathering policy-relevant research that leads to well-informed and well-funded public policies and programs that ensure all people have access to the material basic necessities they need. Donate to help eradicate diaper need here.

Groundswell Fund: This fund strengthens U.S. movements for reproductive and social justice by resourcing intersectional grassroots organizing and centering the leadership of women of color – particularly those who are Black, Indigenous, and Transgender. Donate here to one of the largest funders of women of color-led organizing in the U.S., supporting more than 150 organizations across the U.S.

Project Glimmer: A national nonprofit dedicated to building confidence in young women, this organization that has served over 700,000 teenage girls and women, 86% of whom are young women of color. Project Glimmer works in all 50 states through partnerships with 1,000+ organizations including foster care, homeless, crisis care, and youth services. Donate here to support their programs including Gifts + Goods, Day of Empowerment, Empower Hour, and Career Coaching, to serve their mission in helping end gender and racial inequality.
