Be Your Own Hype Woman

Everyone seems to be feeling at least a little anxious right now. My friend recently told me that what helps her little girls fall asleep more easily these days is telling them nice things about themselves at bedtime: “You’re a kind person. I love the way you play with your sister. You make such beautiful artwork. Being your mom makes me so happy.” And as she says these things, she can see their faces soften, their bodies become more relaxed, as they surrender to the calm of nighttime.
Imagine if we all had someone saying these kinds of loving, validating things to us at the end of the day, how much good that could do for our hearts and souls. And what would we want to hear? If we could be our own hype person, what words would we want whispered into our ears as we drifted off to sleep?
