speak freely without judgment.

founder’s story

Alexis Barad-Cutler is a professional group facilitator and speaker, veteran journalist, and published author.

She founded Not Safe For Mom Group (nsfmg) after a well-known parenting website took down an essay she had written for them because it was "too controversial." She wanted to create a stigma-free space where women could express the complicated feelings, and questions around motherhood they didn’t feel safe talking about anywhere else.

In less than two years, the community has organically grown to an over 16k-strong group of folks from all over the world, across a diverse spectrum of backgrounds. Alexis moderates 24/7 conversations via Instagram Stories — and hears the innermost thoughts and struggles of sometimes up to 100 women each day. She is humbled by the trust that her community has placed in her.

Alexis lives in Brooklyn with her partner, and two kids — who provide plenty of inspiration for (nsfmg)’s content.
